A new video from YouTube channel Unbox Therapy shows off an iPhone case that may confirm many of the rumors about the upcoming iPhone 7. Assuming the case is based on an accurate design of the upcoming phone, the case appears to prove the rumor that the iPhone won’t include a headphone jack. The company also tested out a case for the iPhone SE, which seems to confirm that the device will indeed have a form factor similar to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s.
The videos were made by YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger, who started out the video by comparing the iPhone SE case with the iPhone 5. Interestingly enough, the iPhone 5 fits very well into the case made for the iPhone 5s, save for a few changes when it comes to button alignment for things like the volume buttons. It is expected that this will be to accommodate for the glass being used on recent iPhone models, which has a slight curve on the edges. In general, it seems as though the iPhone SE will include the same overall design as the iPhone 5s.
After that, Hilsenteger moved on to the iPhone 7 case, comparing it with a case for the iPhone 6s. One of the first things he mentioned was the “much larger opening” for the camera, and while the iPhone 6s does fit quite well into the iPhone 7 case, the cutout for the camera doesn’t really align at all. Rumors have been circulating about the iPhone 7 camera, and it’s not yet known if the camera will be single lens or dual lens, although the cutout does seem to suggest the latter. Unfortunately, the case doesn’t confirm or deny whether or not the iPhone 7 camera will protrude from the device or not – here’s to hoping that it won’t.
Perhaps more interesting is the fact that the case seems to confirm that the iPhone 7 will not include a 3.5mm headphone jack. The case does have slots at the bottom, however they appear to be cut out for speaker grills, and while Hilsenteger did try and put a headphone jack through the opening, he noted that it was too small to properly connect headphones.
Rumors have also been circulating that the iPhone 7 will be a lot slimmer than the iPhone 6s, however if this case is anything to go by, that does not seem to be accurate, and any changes to the width of the phone will be very minor.
It’s important to note that this, along with every other rumor or leak that comes before the official release, should be taken with a grain of salt. It would be easy for someone who really wanted to create a case of their own, and it certainly seems unlikely that Apple has released iPhone 7 designs to case companies and the like this far in advance. While leaks like this could certainly be confirmation of a number of rumors, they could also be created in response of the rumors.
It is expected that the iPhone 7 will be released in September, when the company usually announces its flagship phones. The iPhone SE, however will most likely debut at the company’s “loop you in” event on Monday March 21st.
The event is expected to be the launch of a number of other products as well. For example, Apple is expected to announce a new iPad Pro model, which will serve as a smaller version of the device, which was originally launched last year. Of course, it won’t replace the original iPad Pro, but will rather compliment it and be another option for those who might not want a tablet as large as the iPad Pro.
